Daniel J.'s Story
Life
Greetings to all. I'm trying to adjust to becoming a civilian. After 20 yrs, 8 mos, 27 days of active federal service I am now retired (1 Aug 2002). Being a single parent, with custody, of my three children since 5 Aug 1997 I chose to retire and focus on raising my kids. As of 27 November 2006 they are Mercedes 17, Joseph 15, and Christina 10. Mercedes & Joseph attend Peoria High School and yes I know she ought to be going to Agua Fria but "Hey" this is where we found our home, 91st Ave & Peoria Ave. I would like to hear from all that remember me. Even if you don't send me a message just let me know that you are alive and well.
My best to all of you.
School
I have to say it wasn't for me. Once I enlisted in the Army I found out I couldn't do a thing without more schooling. I have completed many military schools with college level studies. I have taken many college courses too. Presently trying to consolidate my courses, finish needed classes and eventually get my degree.
Military
In 1981 I entered the Army as a young mechanic. I've been assigned to many types of units including duty as a paratrooper. After basic training, my job school, and airborne school I was sent to Seoul Korea for duty with 125th Air Traffic Control Battalion. After 1 year I went to Fort Bliss, TX with the 4th Battalion, 1st Air Defense Artillery. While with 4/1 we went to NTC, Fort Irwin, CA, 4 times and we drove there. After about 18 months there I was assigned to Sacrament Army Depot, Communications Systems Test Activity. Such a unique and different type of unit is all I can say. I arrived there as an E-4/Specialist and left as an E-6/Staff Sergeant. Next was duty in Stuttgart, Germany with the 300th MP Company at Wilkens Kaserne. The draw-down in Europe b...Expand for more
rought us home before my 3 years (overseas tour) were finished. They (FORSCOM) now owns us and we were put as a company at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. My combat experience was during a tour of duty in Somalia with the 300th Military Police Company. After some combat experience and being promoted to E-7/Sergeant First Class on 1 Dec 1993 I was assigned as the Motor Sergeant for the 463rd MP Company (Jan 1994) at FLW, MO. Before the year was up I found myself attending the 63B Advanced Course (Baltimore, MD) and the Sergeants Major Academy, Battle Staff Course (Fort Bliss, TX). Then off to Korea with DSAFE, Depot Support Activity Far East where I worked form Panmunjom up north to Pusan down south. I was the Senior Non-Commissioned Officer responsible for Depot Level Maintenance in all of South Korea. After 2 years in Korea I received orders (1996) to Fort Bragg, NC where I performed duties of a US Army Paratrooper with Special Operations. I was stationed at Fort Bragg (Home of the Airborne and Special Operations Command). I was assigned to the 528th Special Operations Support Battalion (Airborne), 1996-2000 and with the 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), 2000-2002. Prior to my retirement (1 Aug 2002) I was the Noncommissioned Officer in charge of a "Maintenance of Excellence" Program while assigned with the 528th Special Operations Support Battalion (Airborne). During my Fort Bragg tour of duty I became separated from my wife and I became a single parent. In 1998 I chose to not pursue my military career further and just finished out my military commitment in order to take care of my children. I completed 20 years, 8 months, and 27 days. I was Honorably Discharged and now considered a Retiree. I am Proud of my military service and would do it all again.
